I love a good sunset, it’s probably my favourite part of the day. Travelling around South East Asia there is plenty a good sunset to be seen. Arriving in Luang Prabang I read in my guidebook that the climb to the summit of Phu Si a one hundred metre high mountain near the centre of the town was a great spot for sunset views.
That’s what we did one afternoon, there is a pathway with steps to the top. In the humid afternoon we were out of breath and covered in sweat at the top just like everyone else as the crowd grew bigger and bigger nearer the sun setting.
We got a seat in prime position and watched the sun set behind the Mekong River and mountain range on a clear afternoon/evening. I’ve never seen such a deep red sunset which grew redder and redder as the sun set closer to the mountain. Absolutely stunning!
If you ever find yourself in Luang Prabang make sure you make the climb to view the sunset. It is one of the highlights of my trip.
